Bio - David Sturdevant

       David "Stick" Sturdevant began playing drums at 12 years old & has played in Rock/Soul/R&B/Classic/
Motown/Blues/Progressive/Jazz-Fusion bands to current.When he was 16yrs. old he had won the "Best Individual Performer" award in THE BATTLE Of THE BANDS in Ridgefield,Ct.During his early years & being self-taught he had the desire for other drum/reading techniques & studied with Sam Ulano in New York City. When David's band "Small Planet"had opened up for Chick Corea & Return to Forever in 1974 he had chance to sit down with "Lenny White" on the kit several times & study that style with such an innovator in the jazz/fusion world. This had led to study with the great "Tony Williams" for about a yr.While primarily performing in progressive rock bands,these are some of the bands David has opened up for : David Lee Roth,The Radiators,Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes,Chick Corea & Return To Forever & others.Artists that David has played drums with have been:Jose Feliciano,Andy Powell(Wishbone Ash),Ian Harris,Sam Broussard(Michael Murphy,Jimmy Buffet,Steve Riley),Deb McColl(Jimmy Buffet),Ron Norris(Starbuck)Joey Stan(Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, Aerosmith),John Bristow(Laura Nyro)Bryan Cummings(Martin Mull),"Revolver"(Beatles Tribute Band) Richie Scarlett(Ace Frehley,Mountain) David has played in various bands in the northeast such as "Goodness" on the Audiofidelity label.In the mid 70's another band was formed named "Backyard" which eventually became "Lytes" with multi-talented players performing there own songs & covers of the Beatles/Yes/Hendrix/ Journey/Boston/Rush/ & more, & continued to record/perform till the late 80's.The band "Crash Landing"(www.myspace.com/crashlandingsmusic) was an instrumental rock-fusion band that had played for several years then incorporated vocals & had opened up for David Lee Roth (Van Halen) in the late 90's.During the 80's & 90's other bands David has performed with have been "Ware & Tare (Funk/R&B/Motown) "Future Tense" 80's-90's dance band, Frank Reeves & The Sneaker Boy Band (link to video)http://youtu.be/mTpjwq5rjTY) & other solo projects to date.The song "Dakota" which David played drums on was written/sung by Ian Harris & was featured on a show titled "LENNON REMEMBERED" on the BBC radio.TO REACH DAVID FOR: Live/Studio bands.
